Monitoring of Castelnuovo Don Bosco Landslide - Italy

| Name: Castelnuovo Don Bosco | Location: Castelnuovo Don Bosco (AT) | Start of the monitoring: June 2016 | End of the monitoring: Ongoing | Client: Unione dei Comuni Alto Astigiano | Responsible for monitoring: University of Turin |

Castelnuovo Don Bosco (AT) is famous worldwide for its Basilica and prestigious wines.

An important wine estate is interested by a landslide that periodically hits the provincial road which connects to Nevissano town. For this reason, the street is periodically closed due to high displacements and the town is isolated.

In order to monitor the ground deformations in real time and provide an Early Warning System, a Vertical Array MUMS system has been installed in June 2016.

The site is instrumented with a tilt chain 12 m long, equipped with 24 Tilt Link V sensors (spaced 50 cm) and 1 Tilt Link HR V sensor.

Control unit queries nodes at defined time intervals, saving the raw data into a SD card. Data are transmitted with UMTS connection to the elaboration centre, where an automatic software elaborates them. Results are available on a web platform in a few seconds.
