START OF THE MONITORING

April 2015

DESCRIPTION

The site is between the interchanges of Vallata and Grottaminarda (province of Avellino) of A16 Highway Napoli-Canosa.

The aim of the monitoring was the control of a slope movement, which insists on the highway, in order to create a geotechnical model and establish Early Warning thresholds.

At the end of March 2015, two MUMS chains have been installed, one upstream and one downstream of the highway.

The system is integrated with other instruments like 3 inclinometers with fixed points, 3 piezometer, 6 TDR and 10 tensiometer.

Site is instrumented with 2 MUMS Vertical Array chain with the following characteristics:

  • 1 chain 23.5 m long, with 26 Tilt Link V sensors, 4 Tilt Link HR V sensors, a piezometer and a barometer;
  • 1 chain 23.5 m long, with 25 Tilt Link V sensors, 5 Tilt Link HR V sensors and a piezometer.

During the monitoring, control unit queried nodes at defined time intervals, saving the raw data into a SD card. Data were transmitted to the elaboration centre with UMTS connection, where an automatic software elaborated them. Results were available on a web platform in a few minutes.
