START OF THE MONITORING

January 2017

DESCRIPTION

An important roto-traslative movement and erosion phenomena characterize the site of Folkestone, placed upon the Channel.

These events interest an important railway line, placed below the cliff, a road and some houses, positioned above.

In order to have an operating Early Warning System, a MUMS Horizontal Array was installed on January 2017. Monitoring ended during October of the same year.

The site was instrumented with two chains 12 m long, equipped with 24 high-resolution multi-parametric tilt sensors (Tilt Link HR 3D H).

Control unit queried nodes at defined time intervals, saving the raw data into a SD card. Data were transmitted to the elaboration centre with UMTS connection, where an automatic software elaborated them. Results were available on a web platform in a few minutes.
