DESCRIPTION

Col de Tende has been the first installation of a MUMS system in France, made during August 2017.

In particular, the site was characterized by the presence of a reinforced soil wall with instability issues. The system was able to monitor the wall in real time and activate alarms when determined thresholds were overcame.

With the installation of two different Vertical Array, 3 m far one to each other, it was possible to control the evolution of the deformative phenomenon which interested the geotechnical structure, before its demolition.

The site was instrumented with two chains 15 m long, equipped respectively with 15 high resolution multi-parametric tilt sensors Tilt Link HR 3D V (spaced 100 cm) and a piezometer to monitor the pore pressure. There were also a barometer, to monitor the atmospheric pressure, and a thermometer, which monitored the temperature of the proper wall.

Control unit queried nodes at defined time intervals, saving the data into a SD card. Raw data were transmitted to the elaboration centre using a UMTS router, where an automatic software elaborates them. Results were available in a few minutes on a web platform.
