START OF THE MONITORING

June 2016

DESCRIPTION

Castelnuovo Don Bosco (AT) is famous all over the world for its Basilica and its prestigious wines.

An important winery is affected by a landslide that periodically hits the provincial road that connects to the village of Nevissano. Because of this, the road is periodically closed due to high displacements and the village is isolated.

In order to monitor ground deformations in real time and provide an Early Warning system, a Vertical Array MUMS system was installed in June 2016.

The site is instrumented with a 12 m long inclination chain, equipped with 24 Tilt Link V sensors (spaced 50 cm apart) and 1 Tilt Link HR V sensor.

The control unit interrogates the nodes at defined time intervals and saves the raw data to an SD card. The data is transmitted via UMTS connection to the processing centre, where automatic software processes it. The results are available on a web platform within seconds.
